1) Mud Creek (PM 8.9), 2) Paul’s Slide (PM 21.6) and Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge Construction (PM 45.52)

HIGHWAY 1 UPDATE – FRIDAY, MAY 26 AT 1 PM – PAUL’S SLIDE CONTINUES TO BE FULLY CLOSED TO EVERYONE

PAUL’S SLIDE ON STATE ROUTE 1 CONTINUES TO BE FULLY CLOSED TO EVERYONE AS OF 1 PM, THURSDAY, MAY 25. CALTRANS ENGINEERS REPORT CONTINUED SLIDE ACTIVITY AND THE AREA HAS BEEN CLOSED IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY. THE RADAR MONITORING SYSTEM SHOWS SLIDE ACTIVITY HAS CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE; CALTRANS IS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH ANYONE ATTEMPTING TO PASS BELOW THE SLIDE AND MATERIAL REMAINS ON THE ROADWAY. LOCAL ACCESS AND DELIVERIES AT THE PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED TIMES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL AT LEAST NEXT TUESDAY, MAY 30, WHEN A RE-ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AND AN UPDATE PROVIDED BY MID-DAY.

HIGHWAY ONE UPDATE – MONDAY, MAY 22 – PAUL’S SLIDE NOON ACCESS TODAY CANCELLED

No noon time access today at Paul’s Slide due to slide activity with minimal

visibility due to fog. We will provide an update this afternoon regarding this evening’s 7 PM access.

MUD CREEK HAD A MAJOR SLIDE/SLIP OUT AT 9:30 PM, SATURDAY, MAY 20—IT LOST MILLIONS OF CUBIC YARDS OF MATERIAL AND REMAINS IMPASSABLE. PAUL’S SLIDE HAS ALSO HAD SLIDE ACTIVITY AND HAS CEASED WORK FOR THE TIME BEING. HOWEVER, IT WILL ALLOW LOCAL RESIDENTS AND DELIVERY VEHICLES ACCESS TOMORROW, MONDAY, MAY 22 BUT CAN CLOSE DOWN AT ANY TIME WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE(SEE UPDATE ABOVE). CALTRANS NEEDS TO RE-ASSESS THE SITUATION AT BOTH LOCATIONS AND DETERMINE WHETHER LOCAL ACCESS CAN REMAIN THROUGH PAUL’S SLIDE. NEXT UPDATE WILL BE BY MID-DAY ON TUESDAY, MAY 23.

Hwy 1 closed at mud creek

Good morning everyone,

· Many of you, especially local residents, are tired of the lack of access. Although we empathize with you, we will not risk your safety or anyone else’s when slide activity continues and there is poor visibility to be able to see the top of the slide. Mud Creek has been active since January.

A non-rainy day does not mean slide activity ceases. Mud Creek may be closed through next week but I will provide an update mid-morning Monday once our crews have had a chance to conduct an assessment and make progress. So for now, Nacimiento-Fergusson is the road to take when exiting south or going north.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Have a pleasant weekend.
