Small blaze breaks out inside Pfeiffer Fire burn zone

Cal Fire personnel work at the scene of a small fire near Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park on Friday….

BIG SUR >> A small fire burned less than an acre Friday within a section of the burned area of the destructive Pfeiffer Fire last December.
About 60 firefighters were on the ground, and the fire was being monitored from the air, said U.S. Forest Service spokewoman Lynn Olson in King City.

The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. near Highway 1 and the entrance Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

Last December’s blaze consumed about 900 acres and burned 34 homes, the Forest Service said.

TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT                                  
ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR MAY 25 – June 1
                                                                                                                

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, May 25, through Sunday, June 1, 2014 – 
newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – South Coast: May 27 – May 28
Daytime slide removal along Highway 1 between the San Luis Obisbo County line and the Salmon Creek Arch Culvert from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
 
Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast: May 27 – May 30
Daytime drainage work and vegetation spraying along Highway 1 between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
 
Highway 1 – Carmel Highlands: May 27 – May 30
Daytime sewer work on Highway 1 at Highland Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be alternating one-way traffic control.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
 
Highway 1 – Monterey
: May 28 – May 29
Daytime pavement on northbound and southbound Highway 1 at Del monte Avenue from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Northbound work will be on Wednesday, May 28, and southbound work on Thursday, May 29.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
 
Highway 68 – Monterey: May 27
 – May 30
Night time utility work on Highway 68 between Josselyn Canyon Road and El Toro Golf Club from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
 
 
Highway 68 – Monterey: May 27 – M

ighway 68 between Canyon Del Rey and Olmsted Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
 
Highway 101 – Bradley: May 28
Daytime bri
dge work on the northbound Highway 101 Jolon Road off-ramp from 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Espinosa Road: May 27 & May 29
Night time removal of K-rail will result in alt
ernating lane closures on Espinosa Road at the Highway 101 uncrossing from 9 a p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27.
Daytime paving will result in will result in alternating lane closures on Espinosa Road at the Highway 101 uncrossing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 29.
Flaggers will be directing traffic.
Motorists should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.
 
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: San Miguel Can
yon Road: May 27 – May 30
Night work on Highway 101 will result in alternating lane c
losures between Vierra Canyon Road and Tustin Road from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
 
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: Crazy Horse Canyon R
oad: May 27 – May 30
Night time construction on Highway 101 will result in temporary c
losures of Highway 101 at the Crazy Horse Canyon Road Overpass between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
The closures are:
Tuesday, May 27: Southbound Highway 101: southbound traffic to use interchange ramps.
Wednesday, May 28: southbound Highway 101 on-ramp.
Thursday, May 30: alternating lane closures
Drivers traveling from Crazy Horse Canyon Road to southbound Highway 101 should detour to Echo Valley Road and San Miguel Canyon Road on the night of Wednesday, May 28.
Flaggers will be in place to control traffic and allow drivers to access Crazy Horse Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road during the highway closure. 
The lane closures are necessary to allow crews to install new drainage for the highway.
Motorists should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.

Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast: May 12 – May 16

  • Daytime drainage work and vegetation spraying along Highway 1 between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

 

Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast AMGEN Bike Tour: May 14

  • Stage Four of The Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Race will move along Southbound Highway 1 from Monterey to Cambria on Wednesday, May 14.
  • The cyclists will leave the Monterey area heading south on Highway 1 at approximately 12 noon, and reach Cambria at approximately 3:30 pm.
  • The CHP will oversee these rolling highway closures for this event.
  •  Caltrans will post electronic message signs and assist with traffic control so motorists are aware of the cyclists and support vehicles.

Highway 1 – Monterey to Santa Cruz County Line: May 12 – May 16

  • Night time striping work on 10 bridges along Highway 1 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • The locations are:
    • Southbound Highway 1 at Munras Ave. in Monterey
    • Southbound Highway 1 onramp at the Fremont St. in Monterey
    • Southbound Highway 1 at the Lake Drive Overcrossing in Marina
    • Southbound Highway 1 at the Lapis Spur overcrossing between Marina and Castroville
    • Southbound Highway 1 at the Pajaro River bridge near Watsonville

Highway 68 – Pacific Grove: May 15

  • Daytime paving on Highway 68 between Syida Drive and Samuel F B Morse Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  •  Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

 

Highway 68 – Monterey: May 12 – May 16

  • Night time utility work on Highway 68 between Josselyn Canyon Road and Torero Drive from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.

Highway 101 – King City: May 12

  • Nighttime bridge work along northbound Highway 101 between Broadway and Jolon Road from 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 156: Prunedale-Castroville: May 16

  • Daytime vegetation spraying along eastbound and west bound Highway 156 between Vierra Canyon Road and Highway 1 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: May 12 – May 16

  • Night time construction on Highway 101 will result in temporary closures of Highway 101 at the Crazy Horse Canyon Road Overpass with traffic shifted onto the on-ramps and off-ramps between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • The closures will only affect one direction each night.
  • The closures are:
    • Monday, May 12: Southbound Highway 101: southbound traffic to use interchange ramps.
    • Tuesday, May 13: Northbound Highway 101: northbound traffic to use interchange ramps.
    • Wednesday, May 14: Southbound Highway 101: northbound traffic to use interchange ramps.
    • Thursday, May 15: possible closures. Update next week.
