** UPDATE #42 **

HIGHWAY 1/ROCKY CREEK VIADUCT PROJECT CONTINUES WITH DAYTIME ROADWORK AND INTERMITTENT OVERNIGHT CLOSURES

Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 at Rocky Creek continues next week from 7 am to 5 pm Monday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 9 with 10-minute delays as needed.

NOTE: There be NO OVERNIGHT FULL closures next week, but there WILL be NIGHT ROADWORK and traffic may be held for up to 10-minutes as needed from 9 pm to 7 am, starting Monday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 8 (opening Friday at 7am). No overnight closures will occur on Friday/Saturday nights. Also, no overnight work/closures on Sunday, Aug. 4.

Work being done next week consists of delivering materials to form and pour viaduct bent caps.

NOTE: Through traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed southbound half of the viaduct while work continues on the northbound half.

The project to construct a permanent viaduct about 15 miles south of Carmel near the Rocky Creek Bridge began on Sept. 4, 2012. Completion is scheduled by the end of October, weather permitting. Daily roadwork schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors so stay tuned for regular updates.

The contractor for this $11 million viaduct project is Golden State Bridge of Martinez, CA.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.

HIGHWAY 1 PAVEMENT MARKER REPLACEMENT BETWEEN CAMBRIA AND CAYUCOS NEXT WEEK

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY – A minor project to replace damaged or missing pavement markers on the highway will take place for one week on Hwy. 1 from Cambria to Cayucos, starting next Monday, Aug. 5.

Roadwork at this location consists of one-way reversing traffic control with a pilot car. Work hours for the week are from 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 8 and from 8:30 am to 2 pm on Friday, Aug. 9, when work project completion is scheduled. 10-15 minute delays can be anticipated.

Part of this project also included replacing pavement markers on U. S. Highway 101 between Buellton and Goleta, which is taking place as well.

The contractor for this $149,000 project is Sterndahl from Sun Valley, CA.

Los Padres National Forest Elevates Fire Restrictions

GOLETA, CA…Due to extremely dry vegetation and an increasing fire danger, Los Padres National Forest officials today announced that Level IV fire restrictions will go into effect beginning today, July 23, 2013. The following restrictions will be rigorously enforced until the end of the declared fire season:

Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited in all areas of Los Padres National Forest including designated Campfire Use sites; however persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are allowed to use portable stoves and lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel within the designated Campfire Use Sites only. California Campfire Permits are available for free download from the Los Padres National Forest website (http://www.fs.usda.gov/lpnf). You must clear all flammable material for a distance of five feet in all directions from your camp stove, have a shovel available, and ensure that a responsible person attends the stove at all times when it is in use.

Recreational target shooting is prohibited in all areas of the National Forest unless specifically authorized by a special use permit with the Forest; however, hunting with a valid State of California hunting license during open hunting season is exempt from this restriction.

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the national forest except within an enclosed vehicle, building, or designated Campfire Use Site.

Fireworks are prohibited at all times and in all locations within Los Padres National Forest.

Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order on roads and trails specifically designated for such use. (This restriction is in effect year-round.)

The fire near Tassajara Hotsprings has changed little since yesterday. The forward progression of the fire has been halted, but due to the terrain and difficult access there still remains open line around the fire. Fire Crews are being flown in today by helicopter and fire line is being constructed.
