HIGHWAY 1/ROCKY CREEK VIADUCT PROJECT IS UNDERWAY—
DAYTIME ROADWORK AND OVERNIGHT CLOSURES CONTINUE

MONTEREY COUNTY – Daytime roadwork continues from 7am to 5 pm this Sunday,
Oct. 28 through next Saturday, Nov. 3. Overnight closures of Highway 1 at
Rocky Creek (Mile Marker 59.5) are scheduled for three nights next week
from Sunday, Oct. 28 through Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 9 pm to 7 am each night.
No overnight closures are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31 or Thursday,
Nov. 1 due to local events.

Construction continues with drilling work for the viaduct columns.

Hwy. 1 @ Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic
will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork. However,
full overnight closures will be scheduled five nights a week Sundays
through Thursdays until February. No full closures will occur on
Friday/Saturday nights.

The project to construct a permanent viaduct about 15 miles south of Carmel
near the Rocky Creek Bridge along Highway 1 began on Sept. 4. Completion is
scheduled by Labor Day 2013, weather permitting. Daily roadwork schedules
are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors so stay
tuned for regular updates.

In order to minimize traffic impact as part of the project, there will be
advance notification for motorists, residents and businesses via a traffic
hotline, electronic message signs and email updates.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving
through highway work zones.

GOLDEN STATE CHALLENGE RACE MOVES THROUGH CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK

CENTRAL COAST – The Golden State Challenge/Ride 2 Recovery bicycle ride is
moving through California from San Francisco to Santa Monica Pier this week
until Saturday, October 27, Caltrans officials have announced.

It began on Sunday, Oct. 21 in San Francisco. The times are roughly 8-9 am
to 4-6 pm each day.

The sequence of the ride:
10/21-Day 1: South SF to Santa Cruz
10/22-Day 2: Santa Cruz to Monterey/Carmel
10/23-Day 3: Carmel to San Simeon
10/24-Day 4: San Simeon to Pismo Beach
10/25-Day 5: Pismo Beach to Solvang
10/26Day 6: Solvang to Santa Barbara
10/27-Day 7: Santa Barbara to Santa Monica

The routes used will be: Hwy. 1 (District 4, 5 and 7), 35 (District 4
only), 101 (District 5 SB / District 7 VEN), 154 & 246 (District 5 only).

The CHP will oversee the highway closures while approximately 175 riders
move through these areas. The public is encouraged to be aware of these
cyclists and support vehicles as they move through the area.

HIGHWAY 1 PAVEMENT SEAL JOB FROM CAMBRIA TO MONTEREY CONTINUES

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY – A 23-mile long pavement seal project continues on
Hwy. 1 from Weymouth Street in Cambria to the Monterey County Line,
Caltrans officials have announced.

One-way traffic control by flagging and pilot car is in effect during work
hours. Up to 20-minute delays can be expected.

NOTE: Previously, work hours were from 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday
and 7 am to 2 pm on Friday. The new work hours are from 7 am to 6 pm Monday
through Thursday with no work on Friday. Roadwork is expected to be
completed by mid-November.

The intent is to reduce the total number of days of actual impact to the
public by avoiding the highest volume traffic day, Friday.

This project calls for applying a seal coat for preservation of the
existing pavement. New striping and delineation to enhance visibility will
also be applied.

The contractor for this $1.9 million project is CalPortland Construction
Inc., of Santa Maria, CA.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through
highway work zones.
