Caltrans Clean up on Highway 1

Caltrans Clean up on Highway 1

Caltrans is estimating that Highway 1 will be open to one-way controlled traffic at 1:00 PM today. We’ll update if there is any change.

I just received a message from Caltrans that they expect to have one-lane, controlled traffic flowing through the area that’s been closed by the slide by 10am this morning.

Here’s a series of photos from the Big Sur Lodge showing the mud flow along Pfeiffer Creek, through their parking lot to Highway 1.

As of 4:30PM, CHP is reporting a slide closing Highway One at Pfeiffer State Park.  Reports say the slide is substantial, coming from Pfeiffer Creek.  Mud came up to the top of the K-rails at the Lodge and some water seeped into the lobby. The road is completely impassable.

As of 6pm CHP is reporting it will be an overnight closure. Will post more information as it becomes available…

Caltrans is reporting Highway 1 is open as of 6:45 AM.

Per Danny Milsap, Highway 1 is closed on south end (MM12) for safety reasons. His crew will get started at 5:30 AM to go out and clean up and further evaluate road status at that time. CHP has the slide at Limekiln Creek Bridge. Rainrocks.

CHP is reporting a mud, dirt, and rock slide at Rain Rocks, just north of Limekiln Creek Bridge. No details but its highly unlikely anyone will be out to clean this up until first light.

From NOAA:
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA AND

A few confusing posts on the CHP site but I think we’ve got it figured out. There will be a “Soft Closure between Mile Marker 11 (Gorda/Willow Creek area) and MM42 (Fullers) until morning. There are a quite a few rock slides along the highway. Proceed with extreme caution.
