Report from Barbara Ray Daughters regarding plugged culverts and the overflows in Big Sur last night:
The Juan Higuera culvert by the Grange and the Redwood Creek culvert by the Lodge parking lot plugged up last night. I just talked to Mike Miller who is shoveling muck at the Grange. The Grange had water on the floor by the side entrance in about 4 feet. He has cleaned it up. The front door is blocked so he is trying to clear the side entrance so people can get in. The flow seemed to gone North around the Grange and then down into the river. The water line on the side of the Grange looked to be about 2.5 feet.
The parking lot of the Lodge is full of mud from the Redwood Creek culvert plugging up just East of the Lodge parking lot. A dozier is clearing it now. The Lodge store and front desk had K rails in front of it and suffered no damage. The mud seemed to have flowed toward the East side of the Highway 1 bridge, and there is still muck in the walkway on the East side of the bridge.
