UPDATED 3:53AM 11/2:
Here we go!
So, the storm has brought our first closures and incidents of the season. Thankfully, other than some stranded vehicles it doesn’t sound like it’s been terribly destructive.
More detailed info after it’s light out again and Caltrans gets going, but the CHP (the incident reporting from their site disappeared around 11PM for some reason) has the highway closed from MM 43 which is right about at Deetjens, south to Limekiln, 4 miles south of Lucia, due to heavy debris on the road.
4AM Update: I called CHP to let them know the info was missing on the site and five minutes later the closure was back online, reporting the north closure at MM 46, which is just south of Big Sur Station/ MAF.
Unofficial sources are reporting that there is another Highway 1 closure between the Grange and Fernwood, due to a plugged culvert at Juan Higuera flooding and mud covering the road. As of 4AM the CHP is not confirming this closure.
And finally there’s a report of Redwood Creek flooding at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, which overflowed at the culvert and bridge on the road up to the conference center, but latest was that this was subsiding.
Thanks to Stan Russell for much of this info, and for pulling this off the CHP site before they went dark:

In any event, you might want to just turn your clocks back (daylight savings today!) and use that extra hour to stay put and catch some more zzz’s this morning. It sound like it will be a bit of doing for Caltrans to clear this mess.
If you have firsthand information on these or other events, don’t hesitate to pass it along to info@surcats.org.
